The CCSD Engagement Unit, in partnership with the Public Education Foundation, converted a bus with seating and shelving to house books and literacy resources, creating a learning space for children and families to enjoy. The project aims to distribute 75,000 new books to youth at various schools and community events throughout the year.
Working to improve literacy, the book bus provides books to students across the Clark County School District to encourage a love of reading. A book is a gift that keeps on giving. The books on the bus are available to all Kindergarten to 12th grade students, meeting the abilities of a diverse reading population.
THE IMPORTANCE OF LITERACY
Thirty-five percent of CCSD elementary school students are reading at a proficient level. Students who are not proficient by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of school. Access to books and other reading materials is a key variable impacting reading proficiency.
CCSD Schools and outside organizations interested in having the CCSD Book Bus visit their site must complete the corresponding interest form below. Additional information can be found on the interest form.
